Dr. Shiladitya Sengupta

Founder, Akamara & Vyome

Dr. Shiladitya Sengupta co-founded and serves on the boards of Akamara Oncology and Vyome Biosciences. Previously, he co-founded Mitra Biotech in 2008. He serves as an Assistant Professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and of Health Sciences and Technology at MIT, and he is a principal investigator at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He has served as the co-chair of the Center for Regenerative Medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He also cofounded Cerulean Pharma Inc., where he served on the scientific advisory board.

Dr. Sengupta joined the Harvard faculty after a fellowship in Biological Engineering from MIT. He completed his PhD at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, where he was a Nehru Scholar as well as a British Chevening Scholar. He is an alumnus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where he received the Geeta Mital Gold Medal. He has been recognized with the TR35 Innovator Award, an honor given to the top 35 innovators worldwide by MIT Technology Review magazine; the Era of Hope Scholar Award and the Innovator Collaborative Award from the US Department of Defense; the Coulter Foundation Career Award; and the Shakuntala Amir Chand Award from the Indian Council for Medical Research. Dr. Sengupta has published over 100 papers, including in Nature and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and he is an inventor on over 350 pending/granted patents.
